One can sugarcoat feedback, or just state the facts. We’ll do the latter.

We distinctly remember the time when we first reached out to HDH (builder local to Maitland region was our preference) on a phone number from google, and a humble voice answered at the other end. Though at the airport ready to go on his holidays, He politely discussed our interest to build with HDH and promised to get back in touch once he returned from his holidays!

During our first few meetings, they were patient with us and understood the intent of our development (now & future) to be able to build carefully -including providing confidence in dealing with our council DA.

There was no rush in the process, and even when there was an increase to the build costs -we were taken along the journey and explained the steps where costs had increased tangibly. They understood our nervousness around it all, and assured us that HDH will try to do everything they can to protect the build – of course no guarantees. The great part of this process (including selections) was that it could all be done locally in Maitland (not in Sydney, etc.) -including making selections (excluding colors, full marks on flexibility there) to ensure no hidden costs later, which we found with other builders who we spoke to.

Another valuable (deal maker) aspect was Their approach to understanding our diversity (cultural) requirements and then assuring those words were put into action either thru plans (House Design) or assisting in cultural ceremonial aspects. Absolute respect there.

Simply put, our experience (from initial engagement to Contract Signature) with HDH has been simply superb.

“We were looking at finding a project home builder to come up with a double-storey house that would fit on a small block 200 m2 in Hamilton. Our children had left home and we wanted to downsize and be closer to Newcastle instead of living in the suburbs. The existing home on this block is an old rental property that needed some work. We wanted to knock it down and rebuild.

We approached many large and small project home builders and they said things like  “No… block is too small”, “No… we haven’t got any designs to suit”. 

We visited a display home village to have a look around and found Hunter Designer Homes. 

Peter (the salesman) showed us around and was very helpful. He said, “Yes I am sure we can design a home to fit that block”.  He listened to our ideas and came up with a plan that was exactly what we wanted.

He then organised an architect to draw up the plans and we were ready to go to council. When the plans were assessed by council, they didn’t like the plan, saying you need a 2 car garage not a 1 car garage, the back verandah is too close to the back fence and you need your bottom storey timbers to withstand floodwaters when another big storm comes like the one that beached the Pasha Bulka. 

We didn’t want to make any of these changes and were impressed with how the Hunter Designer Homes team negotiated with the council to get basically the outcome we wanted with only a few changes. 

We are looking forward to the build and moving in.”

“I started my new home journey in the Hunter Valley with a call to Hunter Designer Homes (HDH). 

Wanting to do my due diligence and look at all options that would suit my budget I looked into other home builders and got trapped in the whirlpool of larger project home builders and much to my embarrassment got sucked in by their fancy showrooms and super pushy salespeople. 

However, I quickly realised that I was on a conveyor belt with little flexibility, hidden costs and had been moved far away from the type of home (design) I wanted to live in.  

So I went back through my emails and called Peter from HDH.  

He took the time to really understand how I lived, my style and my budget (and steered me back on course when I drifted). A customised build based on the ‘Morpeth’ came to life and progressed to DA approval without a hitch.  Working with Peter has been a pleasure.

A day spent walking through other HDH homes being built or just completed and meeting other happy HDH clients left me feeling confident in my decision.
